Eurovision nightGot myself some ice cream and will be making myself compfy on the sofa so I'm ready for the big, glittery, horrible music, camp, pointless politics, drama that is eurovision. It never disappoints me.

Sadly I will be alone for this one. Matt had to do a concert he didn't want to do, so I will be live tweeting (humonlazydiva) my impression of the whole shebang.

The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.
And this is becoming a growing problem, I think, because n

Something that's been bothering me for a while

For a long time now, I noticed that people stopped commenting on new pictures, some still do, but the majority just favs and runs away...
Why? I get that some artists (the most popular ones) may find themselves overwhelmed with the amount of comments they get in a matter of seconds, but I even began to notice a huge change in the comments they used to get, and it has me with this question, why?
I love getting comments, not to be praised and such, but for the simple fact that knowing people like what I do gives me motivation to keep on working and share my work with all of you, if nobody says something, I feel like "why do I even bother sharing this?", and also, I am not the kind of artist that doesn't reply, I love starting conversations from a simple comment, that's how I became friends with wonderful people in this community, and since Deviant Art is a community besides a place to post your art, shouldn't we be doing that? Share our thoughts with each other about each other's work?
So I ask, what's going on? Why this sudden change? YES, I'M TALKING TO YOU! You who faves and runs away! X3

(I just happened to come by your page and saw this) *sigh* I know how you feel, I'm not really popular or anything, but my art gets like fifty favs for each comment. I know it's a compliment and all, but it still annoys me. I like talking to people, I like knowing what they liked about my art, and above all, I like to know they didn't just fav because it's Link 'And Link is like sooo hott!!1!'

But that's happened to me from the very start, so I'm not really sure what happened that made the deviants stop commenting altogether.

Well I don't know for how long you've been in DA, but I've been for a fare share of years now, and I can swear that even though the amount of watchers increased considerably from the ones I had when I first started here, I used to get more comments back then than now ._.
